Model Railway Exhibitions

Our Model Railway Exhibition is open throughout the year. We have a variety of quality layouts featuring most of the popular gauges. At the present time we have the following layouts on display:

Moor Valley is a 00 scale layout made mostly out of Hornby and other proprietary items. A double track mainline feeds 2 branchlines and several sidings.

Bottom Drawer is a small 'Z' gauge layout constructed in a drawer.

Little Switch is an American HO shunting layout set on the edge of a typical small mid-west town. This layout also demonstrates the effectiveness of the American Kay-Dee magnetic coupling system.

Mandlebury is a modern image layout in 'N' gauge set somewhere in the Pennines of West Yorkshire. A considerable variety of locomotives and rolling stock are on display and the 16ft length allows the running of some very long trains.

Cockerton is a narrow gauge (009) layout set pre-war in a busy Northern dockside station and goods yard.

ZeeBottem is in N Gauge based somewhere in the Alps. This is a busy layout, with plenty of action up and down the mountain, with its unique rack railway.

Roa Island is an 'O' gauge layout based on the real location near Barrow-in-Furness. The station building and track layout are as the prototype but the narrow gauge line and the bridges over the creek are imaginary.

No Place was built as a limited space'00' layout with lots of operating potential yet only requiring 3 locomotives and a few carriages and wagons. Note the operating panel at the front.

Children's Layout features that well known steam engine and his friends. The layout can be operated by the children.

To help make it more interesting for families and friends who may not be ardent model railway enthusiasts we offer a quiz for the children at two levels, one slightly harder.

You can have a quick look round the exhibits or you can linger for an hour or so, our staff are always delighted to answer all your questions about the layouts. Young or old, railway enthusiasts or just looking for some family entertainment on a wet day - you can be sure of a warm welcome to our Model Railway Centre. Wheelchairs and pushchairs can be easily accommodated, and there are stools for the smaller people to stand on to get a better view. We also have a box of Brio track and trains to keep the very young occupied.
