Length: just over a mile.

One of the smaller lakes. Nearby is the village of Grasmere, another of the jewels that Cumbria displays to delight the visitor. The village is small, but packed with interesting features such as Dove Cottage where Wordsworth lived while trying to make his name. In the grounds of the cottage the Rock of Names has a list of initials carved into the stone, including those of Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy and the poet Coleridge. The cottage is now a museum dedicated to the Wordsworths. Nearby are their graves

Grasmere is well served with hotels and there are also a fair number of guest houses, bed and breakfast and restaurants.

Walks:

Access to the lake is restricted so most people either walk along the pavement (sidewalk) on the A591 to view the lake, or climb the fells to enjoy the views.
