Location: To the south west of the Derwent fells and under Grasmoor fell. See also Buttermere.

Length: 2.5mls/4km.

The lake is dominated by the magnificent Mellbreak (shown in the picture above) and Grasmoor fells. Crummock is a few feet lower than Buttermere lake to which it is joined by a stream. At the northern end of the lake the stream becomes the River Cocker and flows to Cockermouth.

This is a quiet place. Most visitors are interested in walking the fells hereabouts: water sports are not allowed, to preserve the tranquillity of the valley and make it a thoroughly pleasant place to visit. A day can easily be spent relaxing on the lake shore..

Walks:

As at its smaller neighbour Buttermere, you can walk round the entire lake.
