Nearest Towns: Cockermouth NW on the B5289, 7.5mls/ 12km. Keswick NE on the B5289, 13mls/ 21km. |
Location: To the south west of the Derwent fells and under Grasmoor fell. See also Buttermere. Length: 2.5mls/4km. The lake is dominated by the magnificent Mellbreak (shown in the picture above) and Grasmoor fells. Crummock is a few feet lower than Buttermere lake to which it is joined by a stream. At the northern end of the lake the stream becomes the River Cocker and flows to Cockermouth. This is a quiet place. Most visitors are interested in walking the fells hereabouts: water sports are not allowed, to preserve the tranquillity of the valley and make it a thoroughly pleasant place to visit. A day can easily be spent relaxing on the lake shore.. |
