The hiking is truly great no matter what your starting point. Approach from the north side is recommended. This photograph was taken from Wasdale Head near Wast Water to the south, another starting off point for Pillar, Great Gable and Kirk Fell. Pillar is one of the most rewarding climbs and in this remote area has truly magnificent views.
