Garrigill is a village some four miles from Alston just off the B6277 Middleton in Teesdale road. It is an ideal place to break a journey to Scotland or use as a base to visit The Lakes which is only a 40 minute drive through some superb countryside. There are also many beautiful walks accessible direct from Garrigill - Ashgill Falls, Thortergill Tea Rooms and Gardens and up to the top of Cross Fell, the highest peak in the Pennine Chain at 2970ft. As well as walking, the area is excellent for fishing, horse riding, golf and shooting - also for winter skiing.
Within a 25/35 mile radius of Garrigill there are many museums, castles and cathedrals, the Settle-Carlisle railway, the Killhope Lead Mining Centre, Roman forts, the Roman Wall and the South Tynedale Narrow-Gauge Railway.
