he Cumberland Hotel has two bars; the 'Lounge Bar' open to all throughout the week during the summer and off season. We have "guest" Real Ales from award winning breweries such as Green King, Wychwood, Shepherd Neam, Jennings, Butterknowle, Timothy Taylor's and many others plus John Smiths and lagers. An extensive range of Malt Whiskeys and wines are also available
The 'Lounge Bar' serves bar meals through the week and Roasts (with various options) on Sundays. A popular lunchtime spot for locals on a Sunday Lunchtime and ideal for those passing through Alston.
During the summer months the orial window in the 'Lounge Bar' provides an excellent vantage point to watch the quoits matches usually played on alternate Wednesdays. The 'Bottom Bar' is also open on these occasions.
The 'Celler Bar' has an almost subterranean feel to it, bare stone walls provide a cool respite from the heat of the sun. Serving the same beers, wines and lagers as the 'Lounge Bar' the 'Celler Bar' also benefits from a pool table and has direct access to the patio through French Windows by the large open fireplace in the snug.
The Cumberland's quoits team and their opposition often have their supper in the 'Celler Bar' after another victory. You can stand on the patio and look down to see the games being played, some visitors have been known to play on our side when we're a man short!
The patio also doubles as a barbeque and is often used during the Cumberland beer festival.
