To the Blue Bell Inn
Situated in Alston, England's highest market town in the centre of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This historic Inn can trace its beginnings back as far as the 16th Century (1590). We offer bed and breakfast accommodation and an excellent menu for those wishing to eat with us in the evening. If you are one of the many walkers or cyclists who come to Alston Moor for the superb countryside you will no doubt work up a healthy appetite. Ideally located for fast access to the Lake District and the rest of Cumbria's magnificent countryside and with the benefit of excellent links to the rest of the north of England. Not only close to all that the lake District has to offer, you will be ideally based for the Roman Wall (Hadrians Wall), Scotland is not far, also the National Parks of Northumberland, North Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales. We are truly surrounded by outstanding country!
The pub is also on the Pennine Way and C2C cycle route. And the charming town of Alston with its cobbled main street and picturesque back streets has lots to offer the visitor in the form of museums, galleries, tea shops, antique shops and a narrow gauge steam railway. Excellent fishing (Salmon, and wild brown and sea trout) can be had on the River South Tyne in peaceful surroundings. England's highest golf course is only 5 minutes away. No crowds to spoil your enjoyment either! Anybody who has not visited this area will be amazed at the relaxed atmosphere. Imagine being able to go fishing for a day and not meet another soul!
