Log fires, beamed rooms, panoramic views and the kind of attentive hospitality you would expect from a family run hotel are qualities that you don't happen upon every day of the week.
The French auberge with it's enthusiasm and relaxed atmosphere is something we ourselves have enjoyed and is a setting we offer together with rooms equipped to a very high standard. We have two double bedrooms, a twin and a family room, all with en-suite shower or bath. We also have a luxurious master bedroom with an en-suite Victorian bathroom. Each room is spacious, equipped with a colour television, its own private balcony and furnished to a high standard with queen size beds and fitted wardrobes. While you enjoy an apéritif in the residents lounge, you can choose from a small but carefully thought out menus which feature the adventurous as well as the traditional. Our sensibly priced wine list is extensive with occasional special selections. On the Pennine way, just four miles outside Alston on the B6277 Middleton-in-Teesdale road, and a short walk above the pictureque village of Garrigill, the panoramic views from High Windy stretch for miles. Within an hours drive are settings as the Lake District, Hadrians Wall and the Cathedral City of Durham as well as High Force Waterfall and Talkin Tarn. Depending on the season you can enjoy excellent walking, fishing, shooting, golf, horse riding and even skiing - all within a mile or two of High Windy. Just the thing to work up an appetite.
