WELCOME TO ALSTON - Visit Alston and take the Oliver Twist walk
The filming of Oliver Twist was an unforgettable experience for the community of Alston Moor. For a few weeks Alston's own identity was concealed behind the façade of Bruntmarsh and all our lives became inextricably linked with the making of the film. Sometimes it was difficult to separate fiction from reality. You can now walk around our exhibition of 'Oliver Twist's Alston' to share the experience. It is also an opportunity to visit a town centre that has changed very little since the period in which Oliver Twist was set, with many buildings much older than that. To discover Oliver Twist's Alston, find the beginning of our exhibition at Country Kitchen opposite the Post Office and follow the Mr. Bumble signs down the street into the Market Place, through the historic Butts into King's Arms Lane and return up the cobbled street to the Market Place. Look out for pictures mounted inside our shops and pubs wherever you see Mr. Bumble on an 'Open' sign.
